I am Zana from the Summer Learning Journey team. It is wonderful to see you sharing your “Butterfly” activity! Your post is a beautiful tribute to one of the most magical transformations in the animal kingdom.
Your post captures the amazing life design of a butterfly perfectly. The way you drew the wings is lovely. In New Zealand, we are lucky to have the Kahukura (Red Admiral) and the Pūriri moth, which have such striking patterns.
Inside the chrysalis (the pupa stage), something incredible happens. The caterpillar doesn’t just grow wings, its whole body turns into a liquid before rebuilding itself into a butterfly! Butterflies actually taste with their feet! When they land on a flower or a leaf, they are using special sensors on their legs to see if it’s a good place to lay eggs or find a sweet snack of nectar.
To help the butterflies in your neighbourhood, do you think it would be better to plant lots of bright flowers or just keep a very tidy lawn with no weeds?
